What Is Holistic Health?

Holistic Health is an approach to patient care that focuses on individualizing treatment, treating the whole person, promoting self care and healing.  In order to optimize a person’s health potential, it is important to look beyond symptoms and consider contributing factors which affect a person’s well-being.

Our bodies perform as a whole system, unified by coordinating parts. Thus, our symptoms cannot be divided or explained by considering the components alone.  The holistic philosophy of care encourages the discovery of root causes of pain and provides innovative therapies for resolving those underlying factors.

Total health combines the elements of mind, body and spirit in synergistic achievement. The human body is an amazing creation.  Integrating mental, physical, emotional and spiritual states allows the body to better achieve peak performance.

We recognize that the conditions, injury, and disease affecting our bodies are not ideal.  Alternative MedicineBeing healthy does not necessarily mean the absence of disease or illness. It is about living as completely and optimally as possible.

A diagnosis does not have to be a label;
a chronic illness does not necessarily mean a life sentence.

The purpose of holistic care is intended to maximize your healing, minimize the body’s distractions and bring balance to your state of existence.  We urge our patients to be active participants in their wellness and we strive to help our patients make healthier choices and live a higher quality of life.

Your well being is important. Often times it is possible to find alternatives to treatments such as surgery and medications.   A holistic approach, implementing a regimen of diet, supplements, chiropractic support, and mind/body exercises can go a long way toward helping you achieve a long-lasting recovery and true well being.

What Is Functional Medicine?

With functional medicine we use the most sophisticated lab diagnostics available in conjunction with natural therapies to rehabilitate our patients’ physiology back to a better state. This is the opposite of allopathic medicine.  What traditional medicine does by definition, is treat symptoms.  We do the opposite, searching for root causes of disease rather than chasing symptoms.   We rehabilitate physiology back to a higher functioning state – an optimal functioning state.  It is not our intention to cure people’s diseases.  It is our pursuit to restore their health.

Integrative Medicine Doctor

The way I think about it, my job is not to keep people alive, it is my job to make people feel great while they are alive.

When people achieve better health it naturally improves their quality of life, increasing their energy to accomplish their daily tasks .   A lot of our work deals with energy metabolism, hormones and neuro-transmitters.  We accomplish what we do with nutritional support, dietary modifications and the identification of triggers or insults.

Holistic Medicine & Chiropractic Care – Treating The Whole Individual

Health and Wellness Chiropractic has expanded well past a study of bio-mechanical function and musculo-skeletal issues.  In fact, you cannot separate our body’s biomechanics from our body’s chemistry.  We require oxygen, sugar, hormones, etc., to function effectively.  Our neurology directly impacts how our bio-mechanic function occurs.  Even our emotional state influences our musculo-skeletal system, from hormone production to our emotions affecting the tension and elasticity of our muscles.

In fact emotions even altar the sensation of pain we feel in our musculo-skeletal system.  Pain by definition is an emotional response to the nociceptors in our brain which neurologically register input and then we respond emotionally.

With so many factors intrinsically connected to our bio-mechanics…

…all factors which can be considered to alter and amend a person’s health, should be considered.

Holistic Triad of Health

Holistic Medicine is based on a philosophy that considers all aspects of a person’s health in order to maximize their human potential.  A simple way to explain our holistic view is through the triad of health.  If our health potential is related to a triangle, the base of the triangle represents the structural foundation – our physical state.  Upon this foundation the upright sides represent our mental and chemical states.  It follows that balancing these states equal to their prescribed function creates balance for optimal health in the body.  When a person experiences poor health, it is due to an imbalance in one or more of these three factors.

The triad of health is interactive.  All sides must be evaluated before the underlying causes of our condition can be discovered.  A health problem on one side of the triangle can affect the other sides.  For example, if our physical body is not functioning correctly it directly affects our mental state of health.

Applied kinesiology used in conjunction with chiropractic methods is a powerful tool that allows a trained practitioner to evaluate the balance of our health using these three components and direct therapy toward the sides that need restorative care.

What Is Applied Kinesiology?

Applied Kinesiology is a method of diagnosis using muscle testing as the primaryapplied kinesiology doctor feedback mechanism to examine a person’s body function. This powerful analysis tool was developed by a chiropractor named George Goodheart.

In testing orthopedic conditions, he noted that a weak muscle could help identify nerve signal disruption.   When the disruption was treated, strength immediately improved and often pain was alleviated.    As a result several techniques were developed for restoring proper nerve function which resulted in greater muscle strength.  Some of these techniques are joint mobilization, clinical nutrition, and physical therapy.

It is essentially a neurological exam using your body’s natural cues to highlight dysfunction without the use of more invasive procedures.
